Steel, wall panels, precast concrete.
Every load starts at a plant and ends at a jobsite: a highway or heavy-civil site, somewhere a wall or a structure is going up. Most of it moves flatbed. The rest moves hotshot, when the job can't wait for the next truckload run.
MSE wall panels
Precast panels for highway retaining walls. Flatbed, tarped, and staged in the order the crew wants them off the truck. The first piece needed loaded last, so nobody's re-stacking a trailer at the curb.
Structural steel
Beams and members bound for a highway or heavy-civil site. Strapped and tarped for the road, not a warehouse dock, and loaded so the heaviest piece isn't the first one off.
Precast concrete
Heavy, and not forgiving of a bad tie-down. It rides flatbed, at a weight our trailers are built for, secured the same way for a two-mile drive or a two-day one.
Hotshot, when it can't wait
A smaller load, gone the same day a jobsite calls for a part or a repair that can't wait for the next truckload run. About a third of what we haul moves this way. More on that here.
A live jobsite isn't a warehouse. There's no dock, no forklift, just a crew waiting on the material. Over 90% of loads covered on one day's notice or less, because the person who quotes your load is the same one who answers when the site calls with a problem, not a dispatcher who has to go find out.
There's no dock.
The trailer unloads itself, or the crew has equipment staged and ready before it rolls in. Most warehouse freight never has to solve that. A load that shows up needing a forklift nobody has is a load that sits in the yard.
The window closes.
Jobsites run on their own clock. Miss the appointment window and the crew is gone for the day. The load sits until tomorrow, and the next truck behind it slips too.
Every site has its own rules.
Hard hat, hi-vis, a name on the gate list. We check what a site requires before the truck is dispatched, not after it's turned away. A truck that gets turned around at the gate costs the day, not just the trip.
